Buttonwillow Race Report

After a night of racing two 40 lap races Saturday night at Irwindale Speedway in a King Taco Super Truck we decided to make the trip up to BW for Sunday’s race with ASC. With nothing to prove I headed out for the qualifying race. Starting in the back of the field I moved up quickly passing the number #99, #27 and #24 before the exit of the Star Mazda turn on lap one. My sites now were on the #34 and #94 however before having the chance to pass the #94, there was contact between the #94 and #34 sending the #94 off into the dirt. I was now on the bumper #34 just about to complete lap one when I took a look at my gages and saw that my oil temp was approaching 280 degree. Since I’m not running for neither points nor another championship I had no choice but save the motor and retreat to the pits.

After a thorough review not only was the car severely overheating but it pushed like a dump truck and had limited breaking. The crew had no real answers for the multitude of issues and against my better judgment I decided since I was here I would run it in the race. My reasoning was to see how I would do with severely handicapped car. I actually did quite well with a car that wasn’t fit to drive. I raced 10 competitive laps with a car that I literally could not get out of third gear, ran with an oil temp of 280 plus degrees, pushed like a dump truck and with warped rotors. The times showed it as well. I was only 3 seconds off the fastest race lap held by the lap recorded holder of that track.

All in all not a bad performance but I was very disappointed with the car. I want to win every time that I enter the track however with the quality of cars that I’ve been running lately it’s a win just to survive.

Look for some up coming changes in the weeks to come.
