Before the weekend started I made a deal with Chris Evans to trade my #47 Dodge Charger for his #87 Monte Carlo however on the first practice I noticed there was major issues with the car.
We were chasing clutch, transmission and rear end problems all day Friday and Saturday but we managed to finally put something together for Sunday’s qualifying race. I had to start dead last because I didn’t finish Saturday’s race but I moved up to 4th by lap two and from that point forward the 2nd and 3rd place cars put on the best display of blocking I’ve ever seen. I finished 4th.
The race was much of the same. Started 4th but by turn one I passed #62 and was looking to do the same to the #99. However the driver of the # 99 wasn’t having any of that. By lap two going into turn 3 with #59 O’Connell right on my bumper, the #99 got loose to the outside so I position myself to the inside. However #99 decided to try to protect their position and came back to the right in attempt to "close the door". Bad idea! #99 made contact with my left front tire and we both spun off into the dirt. I got back on the track and again passed the #62 that same lap but in lap four the car overheated because my air-box was blocked by the damage from the contact with the #99.
The #99 and the #62 are great drivers and are definitely one of the fastest out there. Matter of fact the #99 turned that fastest race lap on Saturday. However we need to give each other a little racing room out there. If someone is constantly in your mirror and the only way you can prevent them from passing you is by “closing the door” or taking up the entire racing surface it’s only a matter on time before there’s contact and we both end up out of the race.
Also I need to mention that Chris Evans offered to repair all the issues with the #87 so I would like to thank Chris for being such a stand up guy!!!
